About the show

"The whole work seems to come from another world... man is struck down, then rises on angels' wings to the heights." So Mahler described his Second Symphony. The "Resurrection" Symphony seeks to question life itself—life and death, reward and punishment, faith and doubt—inspired by the "Resurrection" hymn Mahler heard at the funeral of Hans von Bülow, depicting a world where love alone illuminates existence, transcending judgment. The music begins with the funeral of "a beloved one," journeys through innocence and irony, hears the cry for faith in "Urlicht," and culminates in the final movement's depiction of Judgment Day, presenting the most radiant moment of redemption and rebirth. Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski (貝托祺) leads the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (香港管弦樂團) and Chorus, joined by a distinguished lineup of soloists, in this extraordinary Mahler Second Symphony concert. The Orchestra is funded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and is a Venue Partner of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Suitable for audiences interested in symphonies, Mahler's works, and large-scale choral symphonies exploring themes of life and redemption.
