About the show
Van Cliburn Gold Medalist and Avery Fisher Prize recipient Zhang Haochen (張昊辰) returns in triumph, following his 2025 performances with the HK Phil in Shenzhen of the complete Rachmaninoff piano concertos. This time, he presents Brahms' complete piano concertos to Hong Kong audiences, kicking off the season's Brahms series. Praised by The New York Arts as a musician of "superb technique and extraordinary touch," Zhang pours his profound affection for Brahms into poetic pianism and commanding virtuosity, culminating in the monumental Second Piano Concerto—a work of unique structure, surging emotion, and sweeping melodic power, hailed as a pinnacle of the repertoire. Led by rising conductor Christopher Arstad, the Hong Kong Philharmonic opens these two concerts with the composer's early orchestral serenades, weaving them with the complete Brahms piano concertos into a comprehensive tribute to the master. Audiences can savor Zhang Haochen's pianistic finesse alongside the HK Phil's magnificent ensemble, experiencing the depth and tension of Brahms' music.
