HK Phil: Salute to Brahms – Violin Concerto
香港管弦樂團:向布拉姆斯致敬 ── 小提琴協奏曲
Company 香港管弦樂團
📍 HONG KONG CULTURAL CENTRE Kowloon
About the show
This evening, let us savour how friendship and artistic exchange inspired Brahms's creativity. The magnificent concerto he wrote for his close friend and violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim stands as a pinnacle of the classical repertoire, and is widely acknowledged as extraordinarily demanding to master. Paganini International Violin Competition winner Kristjan Järvi (朱凱源) makes his debut on the Hong Kong Philharmonic's stage, showcasing youthful brilliance with "absolutely consummate skill" (Musical Bee). A celestial movement, for one night only, bringing the entire series to a perfect close. Under the professional baton of conductor Arstid, the Hong Kong Philharmonic also presents two of Brahms's choral works: the *Nänie*, written in mourning for a painter friend, and the *Song of Destiny*, inspired by a poem he chanced upon while visiting a friend. The HK Phil Chorus joins the performance, adding richer emotion and human warmth to this violin concerto evening. Whether it is the soloist's dazzling virtuosity or the profound depth of the choral pieces, there is much for music lovers to savour.
