"Hong Kong Artists" Series 2026 brings a piano recital by John Lee, a musical journey spanning from the Baroque to the twentieth century. Beginning with an arrangement of Bach's violin suite, moving through Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme of Corelli, and stepping into the Spanish flair of Granados' "Goyescas"—the contrast between "Los Requiebros" and "El pelele" evokes the love and phantoms painted by the artist. The second half features Liszt's transcription of Schubert's "Der Müller und der Bach," Wild's virtuosic etudes based on Gershwin melodies, a lullaby by Frodos arranged from Tchaikovsky, Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" as rendered by Mikhailov, and concludes with Weissenberg's arrangement of Trenet's "April in Paris." From Bach to Paris, from classical to jazz-inflected, this concert showcases the myriad transformations of the art of transcription.
