"The Road of Return" is a path of faith and a path of heroes. In the fifth year of the Tang dynasty's Dazhong era (851 AD), a Dunhuang envoy team led by 押衙高進達 arrived in Chang'an, presenting a hand-drawn map and delivering triumphant news for Dunhuang (Shazhou City) after being "out of contact" for over half a century. According to historical records, the envoy team set out in the second year of Dazhong (848 AD), detouring through the northern desert to evade pursuit. Along this perilous journey fraught with narrow escapes, the belief in "return" tightly bound home and country together. The dance drama The Reunion of Oasis (舞劇《敦煌歸來》), performed by the Shenzhen Contemporary Dance Troupe, uses the artistic language of modern and contemporary dance to explore new expressions in dance theater, returning to the essence of dance art and imbuing "tradition" with fresh allure. Drawing from the vast Dunhuang culture, the work brings to life the figures and historical stories found in murals and documents, leading audiences into a world of human烟火 a thousand years ago, and evoking a resonance between youthful endeavor and patriotic sentiment. The performance unfolds in two acts, depicting the envoy team's arduous journey: from presenting the map, pursuit, false alarms, and night raids, to fallen heroes, desperate straits, faith, and prayers, culminating in the presentation of the map and the return—押衙高進達, on behalf of the envoy team, presents the Shazhou map, which, after four years, remains accurate to the finest detail despite countless perils.
