At the intersecting ferry crossing, paths converge yet struggle to stay together. In a corner of the border town between Sichuan and Hunan, Cuicui lives alone with her grandfather, an old ferryman, their days simple and songlike. One day, the arrival of two brothers, Tianbao and Nuosong, stirs ripples of love in Cuicui's tranquil life. Yet, while fate brings them together, destiny also causes them to miss each other without reason. A single act of well-intentioned sacrifice leads to an irreparable parting. Tianbao's departure, Nuosong's silent leave, and an accident befalling her grandfather—in one night of wind and rain, the most important people in Cuicui's life quietly vanish. In the endless night, Cuicui chooses to wait quietly for Nuosong's return. Days go on as usual, life continues as usual, and she turns her waiting into the sole candlelight, becoming the most stubborn, gentlest glimmer. Chung Ying Theatre Company (中英劇團) collaborates with Beijing's Gulou West Theatre to adapt Shen Congwen's classic novel into a poetic musical, performed in Cantonese. Acclaimed musician Chung Chi-wing (鍾志榮) crafts the moving melodies, while director司徒慧焯 (司徒慧焯) delicately helms the production, infusing this faint rural ink-wash painting with heart-wrenching tunes. Principal cast members include Chan Nga-wun (陳雅媛), Lau Chung-hin (劉仲軒), Lo Chi-sun (盧智燊), Mok Kok-pong (莫珏邦), Li Mei-yan (李美蒑), and Yuen Ho-yeung (袁浩楊), together bringing to life this tender tale of waiting and missed chances.
