About the show

Hong Kong neon designer A-lo (阿洛) is determined to revive the city's forgotten old signs and reclaim its collective memory. In search of the meaning of "light," he journeys through a labyrinth of light and shadow, following a map left by his master. Along the way, he encounters a storyteller of traditional string puppet theatre who shares life's wisdom, witnesses the fiery collision of Sichuan opera face-changing and street dance, hears the electric thunder of Miao drumming, and sees paper-cut silhouettes outline majestic landscapes... Millennia-old imprints shimmer with iridescence in the neon glow. Heritage and innovation seamlessly converge as young dancers step out new layers and warmth. This root-seeking journey marks the eternal transformation of technology and art, allowing Chinese culture to radiate enduring brilliance. "Neon Splendour: The Soul of Intangible Heritage, Dance Through the Ages" is produced by the Hong Kong Federation of Literary and Arts Associations (中國文學藝術界聯合會香港會員總會) as part of the "Chinese Culture Festival 2026" (中華文化節2026), featuring a troupe of young dancers. The work blends intangible cultural heritage elements such as string puppetry, Sichuan opera face-changing, Miao drum music, and paper-cutting, infused with street dance and neon imagery, presenting a contemporary dance theatre piece that traverses tradition and modernity. Suitable for audiences who enjoy cross-disciplinary performances and innovative interpretations of traditional culture.
