About the show
Cantonese opera star Law Kar-ying (羅家英) serves as artistic consultant and director for "Cantonese Opera Tea House", a 90-minute programme featuring精选 excerpts, Cantonese opera singing, and instrumental music, accompanied by lively guided commentary. Audiences can also enjoy tea and dim sum in a theatre designed to evoke a traditional Chinese tea house. This season, in addition to Law’s signature pieces, the programme adds several distinctive excerpts, including the beloved "Comforting the Wife" from *The Reluctant Return*, the newly choreographed "Stealing the Herbs" from *The Legend of White Snake* which showcases the performers’ skills, and the tension-filled "Resolving Grievances" from *Muk Gwai-ying Breaks Through Hongzhou*, about a general and his wife mending their rift. The "Brand Tune Performance", "Instrumental Music", and "Cantonese Opera Singing" segments also feature new pieces, with rotating selections at each performance to ensure fresh surprises every visit. "A 90-minute introductory opera performance featuring classic Cantonese arias, opera excerpts, and musical pieces in rotation, with accessible guided commentary; no extensive cultural or artistic knowledge is required—everyone is welcome to step into the world of opera anytime," says producer Chung Chun-chun (鍾珍珍). This acclaimed Cantonese opera essence experience is presented by the Tea House Rising Stars Troupe, with principal performers including Wong Hei-wing (王希頴), Man Suet-kau (文雪裘), To Wing-sum (杜詠心), Chan Kai-ting (陳紀婷), and Chan Hei-yu (陳禧瑜). It is an unmissable artistic feast for visitors to the Xiqu Centre.
