About the show

Organised by Fenglin Shanhai Dance Production (風臨山海舞蹈制作) and co-organised by Beijing LDTX Modern Dance Company (北京雷動天下現代舞團), the fourth edition of the Fenglei Dance Platform (風雷舞蹈平台), titled "Blossom in the Dawn (曈曨・幻)", takes "blooming where you land" as its theme, focusing on Chinese modern dance companies founded and developed between 2010 and 2025. The programme presents six modern dance works, and specially invites the Hong Kong Dance Company (香港舞蹈團) and its guest choreographers Shi Xuan (施璇) and Zhou Niannian (周念念) of Xuan Nian Space (璇念空間) to open the show with their piece "Think of Me, Come See My Painting (想念我,就來看我的畫吧!)", collectively showcasing the symbiotic flourishing of art and its era. Two major works carry distinctly different breaths of life. "Dawn (曈曨)", choreographed by Xu Yiming (許一鳴) and performed by Wu Dance Company (烏舞團, Guiyang), takes youth as its theme — the word "曈曨" depicts the moment when the sun is about to rise and the sky shifts from darkness to light. The dance presents youth as a phase of intense growth: beginning with ignorance and confusion, passing through exploration and adjustment, and ultimately achieving unity and harmony of body and mind, like the morning sun breaking through layers of darkness to usher in a radiant light. "Illusion (幻)", choreographed by Liu Xiangyu (劉翔宇), Qi Pingping (綦平平) and Dong Kang (董康), and performed by Deep Sea Modern Dance Company (深海現代舞團, Ningbo), explores the paradox of love and existence: we may find the answer that leads us to ourselves through love; rivers, lakes and mountains sing praises to the courage born of love; we may discover that we can escape nowhere, and that perhaps there is no place for us to stay. That one question, or forty-eight thousand questions, condenses into a single tear of the universe — that is the "solidification" of the moment we see ourselves.
