About the show

Facing fate, some pray to the gods, some follow heaven's will, and some rebel in defiance — ultimately, is fate an oracle? Is it preordained? Or is it "I am the master of my own destiny"? *The Oedipus of Canal Road Flyover (鵝頸橋的伊狄帕斯)* takes its starting point from the classic ancient Greek tragedy *Oedipus Rex*, and through the context and perspective of contemporary Hong Kong, re-examines the oldest and most intense struggle between humanity and destiny. The fatalism of Greek tragedy collides with modern views on fate: in an unknowable universe, can people still take control of their own destiny? The production is presented by Yau Theatre (游劇團), with lead performers including Lo Yi-king (盧宜敬), Au Yeung Hak-ho (歐陽克豪), Ching Siu-man (程曉敏), Lam Ho-tik (林浩迪) and Man Chun-yin (文浚彥). The work weaves together Nietzsche's philosophy, the randomness of quantum mechanics, and multiple perspectives from traditional feng shui and fate calculation, constructing a "contemporary book of fate" for this time and place. The theatre piece is interwoven with original music, ancient Greek melodies, live instrumentation, and physical dance, rewriting this fable of destiny that spans millennia. Suitable for ages 12 and above.
