About the show

A classic gets a radical overhaul, challenging the rules of the game. A genius meticulously plots and orchestrates a grand scheme, gathering a motley crew of individuals into his carefully crafted "Doll's House" for an unprecedented theatrical experiment: a reimagining of Ibsen's masterpiece *A Doll's House*, attempting to write a brand-new ending for its protagonist, Nora. The genius believes he can pull all the strings and manipulate everyone at his whim, only to discover he himself is a pawn in someone else's game. What truly defines "manipulation" between people? How can one break free from the trap of being a puppet in relationships? And what revelation will Nora's awakening bring to this experiment? The young company actors will navigate through a bizarre and dazzling theatrical framework, experiencing the ever-shifting emotions of their characters, striving to present the full fruits of a year's training. Another work, *The Weird Merchant (威嚟蝦商人)*, takes Shakespeare's *The Merchant of Venice* as its foundation, reconstructing the narrative from a fresh perspective — the city folk Sa, Li, Lun, and Chun wander through the marketplace, observing events up close: Ah On, to help his friend Ah Bat propose to Tia, signs a loan contract with his enemy Shylock, stipulating "a pound of flesh if the bond is broken." When Ah On defaults and faces mortal danger, Tia steps forward in court, using a clever trick to resolve the crisis for her husband's friend. They don't act, they don't speak up — they just point and gossip, making a mess of things? This group of youths reads *The Merchant of Venice* while dissecting *The Weird Merchant*. The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Youth Company Annual Performance 2026 is performed by members of the Youth Company, with lead actors Chan Kin-man (陳建文) and Leung Chi-chung (梁智聰). The entire play is performed in Cantonese without surtitles. The programme runs approximately 120 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Secondary school students
