About the show
Last time we did two shows, and in less than half a year, Hong Kong has perked up a bit again. So I want to give everyone an update. In Hong Kong, every minute, sixty seconds of youth are lost. Some say it was great to be born in the 80s — you got to see so many new things come into being. But post-80s folks are constantly lamenting "the disappearance of an era." We went from being colonial residents to "masters of our own house" as Hongkongers, then merged into a nation's Greater Bay Area. So, is there really a "Hong Kong spirit"? Besides being embodied under Lion Rock, where else can we find it? As a boat dweller, would you feel more pride as an indigenous villager? As a preacher, does your Hongkonger identity matter? After forty years in Hong Kong, is it love? Or duty? Or trauma? "Hong Kong Spirit...d" is presented by Smile Maker (笑星製造), starring Brother Wong (黃弟兄) in a stand-up comedy special, now returning for an encore performance. The show weaves humour and self-reflection through stand-up comedy, exploring Hongkongers' identity, belonging, and change — perfect for audiences interested in local culture, collective memory, and reflections on the times.
Synopsis translated by KinoHK — the performance itself is not in English unless stated above.
