About the show

"Thinking Academy 2026 (思考學院2026)" is Lau Hiu-yi's (劉曉義) inquiry into the art academy — when education meets creation, between systems and history, how is creativity actually shaped? The theatre becomes a temporary academy: some ask questions, some respond; some observe, some remain silent; some try to understand, and some are still confused. Here, "learning" is a process of constantly deconstructing and reorganising one's own experience. Lau Hiu-yi (劉曉義) has invited six artists from Seoul, Phnom Penh, Tokyo, Beijing, Nanjing and Chongqing, who will engage in exchange and collision within the same space — contemporary dance, Chinese opera, the body, sound and traditional performance are no longer mere displays of their own culture, but a mutual re-understanding through watching each other, and a re-examination of oneself. Produced by Zuni Icosahedron (進念.二十面體), directed and devised by Lau Hiu-yi (劉曉義), "Thinking Academy 2026 (思考學院2026)" brings together artists from six Asian cities to create on the same stage, exploring the possibilities and limitations of arts education through cross-media theatre. The main performers include Park Ho-bin (朴豪彬) and Yam Ka-lok (任家樂). The work continues Lau Hiu-yi's (劉曉義) ongoing questioning over the past two decades in arts education, cross-cultural exchange and independent artistic practice. This piece may not offer conclusions, but it attempts to preserve a space where discussion, doubt and thought are still possible, while also looking towards the future of Asian cultural exchange.
