"A song of farewell at Yang Pass, a bitter tear to part from the beloved" — During the Warring States period, the State of Qi raised an army to attack Zhao. Princess Cuibi (翠碧公主) resolutely refused Qin's aid and recruited talents to save her country. Xia Qingyun (夏青雲) sang with his sword drawn and was appointed General-in-Chief, betrothing himself to Cuibi. But when the King of Qin forced a marriage, she was compelled to wed another, demoting Qingyun three times to a halberd-bearer. At the wedding send-off, Qingyun finally learned the truth; spurred on by his foster father and brother, he fought back against Qin, reclaimed Cuibi, and the lovers were united at last. In another tale, Zhou Yu (周瑜) of the Three Kingdoms devised a brilliant plan to secure the realm, only to lose his wife and his army — unwilling to accept defeat, he plotted a false map to destroy his rival, but was outwitted by Zhang Fei (張飛) at the Reed Marshes, and a single letter of concern from Zhuge Liang (孔明) sent this hero to his grave. Then there is Chen Jichang (陳季常), famously henpecked: when his wife Liu Yu'e (柳玉娥) learned he had dallied with her cousin Su Qincao (蘇琴操), she flew into a rage, forced him to kneel and beat him, dragging him to the imperial court where she would rather drink poison. Finally, at Shetang Pass, Yang Jiye (楊繼業) and She Saihua (佘賽花) admired each other, but due to the Empress Dowager's meddling and Cui Yinglong's (崔應龍) provocations, Saihua mistakenly believed Jiye had killed her father and brother; chasing him to the Seven Star Temple, she was captured instead — with heaven and earth as witnesses, can they renew their hundred-year bond? The Hong Kong Eight Troupes Association (香港八和會館) has become the venue partner of the Yau Ma Tei Theatre for the fifth time.
