About the show

Fingerstyle guitar master Martin Taylor presents an evening of solo jazz guitar. One of the most important solo jazz guitarists of our time, Martin Taylor brings his 70th birthday tour to Hong Kong, reuniting with local fans after nearly a decade. Known as a "fingerstyle guitar master," Taylor is celebrated worldwide for his virtuosic solo technique, effortlessly weaving melody, rich harmonies, and bass lines on a single guitar—like a compact jazz ensemble—while deftly navigating diverse musical styles. The tour's repertoire features a selection of jazz standards, reimagined through Taylor's nuanced and distinctive jazz language, alongside beloved American songbook tunes and popular melodies. A highlight of the Hong Kong stop is Taylor's invitation to local top-tier jazz guitarist Eugene Pao (包以正), a frequent collaborator, to join him on stage. In the intimate setting of the Tea House Theatre, audiences will have the rare chance to witness a live musical dialogue between two guitar masters up close. Martin Taylor is a legendary British guitarist whose career spans over five decades, with credits on over a hundred albums and numerous accolades, including 14 British Jazz Awards as a guitarist. He has collaborated with artists such as George Harrison, Stéphane Grappelli, Jeff Beck, and Gary Burton. In April 2026, he was honored with the Julian Bream Award by the Worshipful Company of Musicians in recognition of his outstanding contributions to musical artistry. Following international stars like Stacey Kent, Dianne Reeves, and Ambrose Akinmusire, the Xiqu Centre welcomes another heavyweight musician. Presented by the West Kowloon Cultural District, this jazz event is sure to be eagerly anticipated by music lovers.
