Chinese classical dance has a long history, incorporating cultural elements from Chinese martial arts, opera, and contemporary ballet, and is known for its style that balances strength with softness, and uprightness with subtlety. This course, offered by the EXCEL (演藝進修學院) of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (香港演藝學院), will take you into the world of classical dance — content includes foundational classical dance exercises, using floor and barre training to enhance body flexibility, agility, and muscular strength. The instructor will also impart the essence of classical dance, "shenyun" (身韻), which uses breathing, lifting and sinking, and physical movements such as "hands, eyes, body, technique, form, spirit, energy, and rhythm" (手、眼、身、法、形、神、勁、律) to fully express the emotion and spirit of the dance, showcasing the unique rhythmic sense and classical beauty of Chinese classical dance.
