About the show
This August, the Secondary School and Upper Primary troupes of SMILE™+ Chung Ying Teenage Theatre Company (SMILE™+ 中英青少年劇團), under Chung Ying Theatre Company (中英劇團), will jointly present their graduation performance "When the World Begins to Fade (當世界開始褪色)", using two stories to respond to the tensions between growth, choice, time, and the self. As the world gradually fades, can we still hold onto what we truly value? The Secondary School troupe performs "Dear, Black (親愛的,黑色)", which follows John on a journey to find utopia, only to feel lost amid the people and events along the way, prompting him to question: does the utopia he yearns for truly exist? If utopia is merely a fiction, is changing oneself, pleasing others, and conforming to "society" the only rule for survival? This is a story about leaving home and growing up. The Upper Primary troupe performs "Momo (默默)", adapted from the original work by Michael Ende (麥克·安迪), with permission from Bühnenverlag Weitendorf GmbH. Momo possesses a unique ability — anyone who confides in her eventually leaves with a smile. Yet, the city quietly changes as a group of mysterious "grey men" encourage people to save time. In the pursuit of efficiency and achievement, people begin to abandon seemingly "useless" activities like chatting, resting, companionship, and care. The gentle become impatient, the persistent start to compromise, and promises are easily broken. As time is constantly saved and compressed, do we truly live better? If time is life, what is the meaning of a compressed life? Both works are performed in Cantonese, with free seating, and are suitable for audiences aged six and above.
