About the show

Hong Kong pianist and composer Barnaby Lu (Barnaby Lu) presents original pieces from his debut album *Light, Answered*, exploring distance, memory, faith, and the silent search for light. The music blends modern jazz, ambient textures, irregular rhythms, and collective improvisation, moving between a floating sense of space, fragile warmth, and quietly surging tension. Meanwhile, what kind of stillness emerges when the sweltering summer heat meets a night of gently swaying ballads? Quartet Morii, led by New York-based pianist and composer Yueyang Chen (陳悅洋), joins Jonas Cho (Jonas Cho), Nelson Fung (Nelson Fung), and Dean Li (Dean Li) for an immersive summer evening — centring on folk songs and serenades, using slow tempos and a swaying atmosphere to soothe the summer heat. If you're looking for a night to slow down in the heat, this ballad-focused performance is just right for you. Patrick Lui (Patrick Lui) and his Jazz Orchestra will present big band re-arrangements of film music familiar to Hong Kong audiences, starting from jazz pieces and theme songs in Hong Kong cinema, reworking scores from directors such as Wong Kar-wai (王家衛), Johnnie To (杜琪峯), and Stephen Chow (周星馳), as well as classics like *The Doctor* (流氓醫生), with surprise tracks in store. These three performances are presented by Flip Turn Three and a Half (翻騰三周半). Barnaby Lu's music unfolds layer by layer in an intimate live setting, driven by improvisational sparks, interplay between musicians, and subtle shifts between tension and stillness. Quartet Morii, with their delicate touch and jazz vocabulary rooted in tradition, carries the audience on a gentle drift through the concrete jungle. The Patrick Lui Jazz Orchestra opened the Hong Kong Jazz Marathon in 2019 alongside New York saxophone master Will Vinson, and has been invited to perform at the Free Jazz Festival for five consecutive years. In 2020, Patrick Lui released his big band album *Sonder*, recorded in New York, and in 2024, he was awarde
