About the show

The world is falling apart, and everything must be repaid. Cryptocurrency has sparked a new wave of investment frenzy. The crypto exchange founded by Jarvis and a group of Wall Street elites quickly garnered massive market attention, leaping to become one of the world's highest-valued financial institutions. Yet elections, pandemics, and wars have successively rocked the market, turning vast profits into endless debt overnight. The market longs for the next Warren Buffett but instead ushers in a new Bernie Madoff. From Brexit to the US-Iran war, the world has been turned upside down over a decade, and even the noblest ideals cannot withstand the tides of change. Everything is teetering—where will our future lead? This is a story about money, power, and the boundless desires of human nature, starting from the disillusionment of ideals and confronting the collapse of contemporary society. Produced by Lam Kwan-yiu (林坤燿), "The Great Debt" (《巨債》) is adapted from the bankruptcy case of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, performed in Cantonese with a runtime of approximately three hours. Through the rise and fall of Wall Street elites, the theatre troupe dissects the financial bubbles and moral dilemmas of the globalised era, making it suitable for audiences interested in modern social issues, financial crises, or human struggles.
