About the show
"Everlasting Vow at the Palace of Eternal Life," "Loyalty of Monarch and Minister," "Cold Moon Over Qinhuai Buries the Flower Queen," "New Farewell My Concubine," "Parting from Mother in 'Why Not Return,'" and "Reunion of the Heavenly Match" — six highlights, six tales of love and longing, all in the Green Meadow Cantonese Opera Studio's "The Charming Lady (II)"精选 highlights showcase. From the oath of Emperor Ming of Tang and Yang Guifei in the Palace of Eternal Life, to the tragic farewell of the Conqueror and his concubine, to the long-awaited reunion of a celestial and mortal love, one night spans a thousand years, savoring the most touching bonds of love and righteousness in Cantonese opera. These pieces are the cream of Wang Jieqing's (王潔清) favorite highlights in recent years, performed alongside her stage partners of over two decades — Leung Wai-hong (梁煒康), Lai Yiu-wai (黎耀威), Wong Shing-ban (黃成彬), and Tse Kwok-cheung (謝國璋) — whose默契 needs no words. A local sentiment, understood between stage and audience — how could fans miss this? This year marks the 20th anniversary of Green Meadow Cantonese Opera Studio. To commemorate this milestone, they have specially organized three performances, and "The Charming Lady (II)" is the grand finale of the third. They have chosen the treasured repertoire of the "Dai Lung Fung" (大龍鳳) troupe, which has accompanied Hong Kong for half a century, carrying the collective memories of generations; the performers themselves grew up watching these classics — that sentiment is woven into their very being. Also joining the lineup are To Wing-sam (杜詠心), King Fa Neoi (瓊花女), and Lam Wai-ting (林煒婷) returning to support, with Kuen Gor and Kai Gor leading the orchestra. Together, front and backstage, they craft a heartfelt performance to thank audiences for their unwavering support over the past two decades. One evening bears witness to the inheritance and innovation of Cantonese opera, and to a steadfast bond of theatrical camaraderie.
