"Grand Spectacular: The Big Dragon and Phoenix" — Green Meadow Cantonese Opera Studio's twentieth anniversary third installment selects the treasured repertoire of the *Daai Lung Fung* (Big Dragon and Phoenix) troupe for the first evening's performance. One reason is that over the past few decades, these classic pieces have been representative productions accompanying Hong Kong through half a century in theatres and bamboo stages alike, carrying the collective memory of Cantonese opera in the city. The cast participating this time also grew up watching these *Daai Lung Fung* gems, and that local sentiment and style resonate deeply with both performers and audience. Led by Lai Yiu-wai (黎耀威), Wong Ching-ching (王潔清), Wong Shing-ban (黃成彬), King Fa-lui (瓊花女), and To Wing-sum (杜詠心), the evening presents four selected excerpts: "The Camp Confrontation from The Peerless Heroes Conquer the Chu City," "The Coronation and Husband Selection from Courtship by the Peach Blossom Lake," "The Wedding Shocker from The Infatuated Phoenix and the Wild Dragon," and "The Golden Hall Reunion from The Swallow Returns Before Her Man." Green Meadow recalls that in 2006, the troupe's founding purpose was simply to facilitate visits to elderly care homes, never imagining they would stay in the field for eighteen years. Two decades on, the biggest shift has been from gratitude at turning a hobby into a profession, to today's desire to contribute further, quietly striving with a circle of old friends for the preservation and innovation of Hong Kong Cantonese opera.
