About the show

"The Road Home" is a path of faith, and a path of heroes. In the fifth year of the Dazhong era of the Tang Dynasty (851 AD), a Dunhuang messenger delegation led by Commissioner Gao Jinda (高進達) arrived in Chang'an, presenting a hand-drawn map and delivering triumphant news from Dunhuang (Shazhou City), which had been "out of contact" for over half a century. According to historical records, the delegation set out in the second year of Dazhong (848 AD). To evade pursuit, they took a detour through the northern deserts. On this perilous, life-and-death journey, the faith of "returning home" tightly bound family and country together. The dance drama "Return to Dunhuang (敦煌歸來)" is performed by Shenzhen Contemporary Dance Troupe (深圳當代舞團). Using the artistic language of modern and contemporary dance, it explores new expressions in dance drama through unique movements, returning to the essence of dance art and imbuing "tradition" with fresh charm. The work draws from the vast Dunhuang culture, bringing to life the figures and historical stories from murals and texts, guiding the audience into a world of earthly life a thousand years ago, and allowing them to feel the resonance of youthful struggle and patriotic sentiment. "Return to Dunhuang (敦煌歸來)" brings together a top-tier creative team from China, using artistic imagination to fill the gaps in historical details. It is divided into two acts, depicting the delegation's heroic journey: from presenting the map, pursuit, false alarms, night raids, to spirits, desperation, faith, prayers, and finally concluding with the map presentation and return — Commissioner Gao Jinda (高進達), representing the delegation, presents the map of Shazhou. After four years, despite near-death trials, the map is delivered without error. Performed by the young team of Shenzhen Contemporary Dance Troupe (深圳當代舞團), the show runs approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes (including a 15-minute intermission), suitable for audiences interested in history, cu
