“The faith of ‘returning’ through life-and-death trials binds home and country together.” In the fifth year of the Tang dynasty's Dazhong era (851 AD),押衙高進達 led the Dunhuang messenger delegation through the perils of the northern desert, finally presenting the hand-measured, hand-drawn map of Shazhou to Chang'an. Along the way, pursuits, false alarms, night ambushes, and even the desperate stand against desert bandits—along with the heroic sacrifice of 何法師—weave an epic tale of life and death, loyalty, and perseverance. In the end, amidst the lantern-lit tribute to fallen spirits and the distant calls of longing, the delegation completes their four-year journey of “presenting the map and returning.” This production, created and performed by 深圳當代舞團, brings together a top-tier domestic creative team, reinterpreting figures from Dunhuang murals and historical records through contemporary dance vocabulary, blending traditional culture with modern aesthetics.
