At the end of the Yuan dynasty, heroes rose across the land. Chen Youliang (陳友諒), the King of Northern Han, and Zhang Shicheng (張士誠), the King of Wu, formed a marriage alliance, agreeing to launch a joint attack on Zhu Yuanzhang (朱元璋) in Jinling. Chen Youliang sent his general Hu Lan (胡藍) to Gusu to escort the bride, unaware that Zhu Yuanzhang’s strategist Liu Bowen (劉伯溫) had already set an ambush. He captured Zhang Shicheng’s son Zhang Ren (張仁), persuaded Hu Lan to defect, and ordered his own general Hua Yunlong (華雲龍) to impersonate Zhang Ren for the marriage. The Northern Han marshal Zhang Dingbian (張定邊) saw through the disguise at once, but Chen Youliang ignored his earnest warnings. Hua Yunlong married Princess Yinping (銀屏), and the couple grew deeply in love. Later, Chen Youliang launched an attack on Jinling but fell into an ambush at Lishan, losing his entire army. Hua Yunlong turned his sword against him and killed Chen Youliang. When Princess Yinping learned of this, she rushed to avenge her father. Hua Yunlong, out of love for his wife, offered his own neck to her blade, but Yinping could not bring herself to strike. Hua Yunfeng (華雲鳳) arrived and shot Yinping, who fled in disarray. Worried for her injuries, Hua Yunlong chased after her to a ruined temple to save his wife. Liu Bowen arrived and revealed the truth to Yinping: Chen Youliang had once killed the King of Northern Han to usurp his title and forcibly took the king’s consort, who was already pregnant with Yinping. The real murderer of her father was Chen Youliang, making Hua Yunlong the avenger of her true father. The misunderstanding cleared, and the two were finally united as a loving couple. This performance is organised by Po Leung Kuk (保良局) as a charity Cantonese opera special.
