About the show
Lam Chung-yan (林中人) presents seven performance art interventions across Hong Kong, placing familiar acts in unexpected urban settings. Inside the glass storefronts of street-level shops, he invites passersby or visitors to spend time alone with him, each encounter blurring the line between public and private. He also carries everyday objects through the streets and alleys, while leading running activities that humorously use exercise to reflect on life's various burdens. In different public spaces within hotels, the artist rests and weighs himself, exposing what are typically private actions to open view. Finally, he returns to the building currently housing Para Site, concluding this nomadic diary of performances with a series of household chores. Each meeting, each site, creates a displacement or disruption in daily life. The work unsettles the public's and participants' established understanding of and interaction with their surroundings, prompting us to pause, observe closely, and re-envision public space. Presented by Para Site, "My Body is an Art Space" is a week-long performance art showcase, conceived and performed by artist Lam Chung-yan (林中人). By turning his body into a mobile vessel, he moves between Hong Kong's streets, hotels, and buildings, blending performance art with observations of everyday life. Each encounter is a unique interactive experiment, inviting audiences to examine their relationship with the city from a fresh perspective. The work crosses the boundary between art and life, making the body a medium for exploring the possibilities of public space—ideal for those interested in performance art and urban human observation to experience firsthand.
