The Hong Kong Eight Harmony Association (香港八和會館) becomes the "Venue Partner" of the Yau Ma Tei Theatre for the fifth time this year, rebranding its initiative as the "Outstanding Emerging Cantonese Opera Artists Heritage Programme" (優越新秀粵劇傳承計劃). Under the artistic direction of renowned performers including Wong Chiu-kwan (王超群), Leung Siu-ming (梁兆明), Chan Wing-yee (陳咏儀), Chan Hung-chun (陳鴻進), Sun Kim-long (新劍郎) and Lung Koon-tin (龍貫天), the programme builds on fourteen years of performance and training experience to focus on nurturing over forty emerging Cantonese opera talents. Through hands-on coaching, full-length productions, and showcase performances, it offers comprehensive training to demonstrate the prowess of Hong Kong's young Cantonese opera artists to audiences, carrying forward this local intangible cultural heritage. In the coming year, the programme will stage sixty-six performances and events; the current second season presents five classic full-length plays, including "The Phoenix Seeks Her Mate by Peach Blossom Lake" (《桃花湖畔鳳求凰》), "The Infatuated Phoenix and the Wild Dragon" (《痴鳳狂龍》), "An Old Acquaintance Returns at Rouge Alley" (《胭脂巷口故人來》), "The Swallow Returns Before Her Beloved" (《燕歸人未歸》) and "The Goddess of the Luo River" (《洛神》), headlined by emerging talents such as Ng Lap-hei (吳立熙), Chow Lok-tung (周洛童), Cheung Siu-lun (張肇倫), So Yu-kiu (蘇鈺橋) and Lam Pui-ka (林貝嘉). These five plays encompass tales of lovelorn men and women, family and national grievances, mistaken identities and swapped fates, and love abandoned midway—every lyric a testament to the trials of passion. In "The Phoenix Seeks Her Mate by Peach Blossom Lake", Chu Tan-fung and Yam Kam-shing meet by chance while shooting eagles and exchange gold and silver darts as tokens of affection; one is crowned the Queen of Nam Ping, the other a prince of Tung Chai.
