About the show

"People of our generation seem to have no control over our own lives — everyone has a bitter story to tell..." Is anyone still keeping a diary? A so-called "Wu Song's Diary" has been circulating on the streets, said to be written by a certain Ah Song, a man of both letters and brawn, who records life's minutiae from a unique perspective — he fights tigers and swats flies alike, every page soaked in blood and sweat. Yet he loses his job, sells sesame cakes, and witnesses life's absurdities firsthand. And yet, he still has dreams, poetry, and a distant desert horizon. After a decade of whispers, Wu Song returns; rereading this heroic diary page by page, this is a story of a man with no control over his fate, who still holds onto a distant dream amidst the absurdity. "Wu Song's Diary" premiered in 2017, winning Best Script and Outstanding Production at the 27th Hong Kong Theatre Awards. This 2026 new version, produced by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (香港話劇團), sees Poon Wai-sum (潘惠森) leading a motley crew of talents, paired with a new musical score by Chan Wai-fat (陳偉發), trapping the heroes of Liangshan in a state where they can neither advance nor retreat. Every word and every punch is a rhythmic pause, creating a new classic of a diary in motion.
