About the show

A figure of chivalry among the high-rises—an urban legend about righteousness. The martial world of wuxia novelists has long faded, yet the neon lights of reality still blaze. At fifty-three, the protagonist resolutely quits his job to study martial arts at Mount Song for three years. Upon his return, he attempts to navigate Hong Kong with his anachronistic skills, seeking to prove the spirit of chivalry within the concrete jungle. He uses french fries as darts, cardboard as his bed, and enacts a one-man martial world amid mockery and expulsion. There is no villain for him to defeat in reality—only the weight of life that threatens to crush him. Yet he stubbornly resists, vowing to carve out the possibility of "chivalry" against the walls of the mundane. This is a contemporary fairy tale for adults. Produced by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (香港話劇團), this play is set in modern Hong Kong, weaving traditional wuxia with the solitary courage of urban outcasts. Drawing from real events and martial arts culture, it uses exaggerated, poetic physicality and dark humour to explore midlife crisis, shattered ideals, and the contemporary meaning of chivalry. The lead role is performed by a seasoned actor, who delicately portrays the obsession and struggle of a man out of his time, asking through laughter and tears: when the martial world is dead, how can we still be a "hero"?
