About the show

A century-spanning masterpiece — who decides who is saint and who is mortal? The Hundred Years' War has reached its end, and Joan of Arc's fate is sealed in flames. Amidst the storms and clamour of a century, the most gripping moment is when Joan takes up that innocent yet unwavering ideal of ultimate goodness. How could George Bernard Shaw, the Irish playwright and Nobel laureate, stop at merely telling a tumultuous historical tale in his classic *Saint Joan*? Valour and mediocrity, wavering yet tenacious — what defines a saint? What does a saint do? In the currents of history, we are all searching for the truth and reflection of human strength. Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (香港話劇團) presents *Saint Joan*, with emerging director Chu Kai-hin (朱啟軒) offering a fresh adaptation and contemporary theatrical techniques to reinterpret this century-old realist drama. The production preserves the spiritual core of Shaw's play, probing the blurred yet profound line between saint, hero, and ordinary person. On stage, Joan is no longer just a martyr from ancient texts, but an ordinary person struggling between absurdity and faith, using innocent yet tenacious strength to shake fate.
