Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s Conductor Laureate Yip Wing-sie (葉詠詩) will join sheng virtuoso Lo Sze-wang (盧思泓) and the Cong Quartet for a concert that blends Eastern and Western sounds. The world premiere of Kuang Chan-wai (鄺展維)’s sheng concerto "There and Then" (彼時彼方), commissioned by Hong Kong Sinfonietta, explores the dialogue between the sheng and string quartet — intertwining time and space, ancient and modern, as notes seek resonance across moments and places. This performance appeals to audiences who enjoy the collision of contemporary music and traditional instruments, witnessing how the composer weaves the sheng’s unique breath with strings to create a fresh soundscape. The concert is performed by Hong Kong Sinfonietta, conducted by Yip Wing-sie (葉詠詩), with Lo Sze-wang (盧思泓) (Artist Associate 2012-2013) as sheng soloist, and the Cong Quartet comprising Chik Yiu-ting (戚耀庭), Aya Ishiwatari (石渡彩馨), Wong Lap-hang (黃立恆) and Cheng Yan-ho (鄭恩浩). Kuang Chan-wai (鄺展維) (Artist Associate 2020-2022)’s "There and Then" (彼時彼方) is a world premiere commissioned by the orchestra, with fees sponsored by the CASH Music Fund under the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong.
