In a remote corner of a border town between Sichuan and Hunan, Cuicui lives a simple, song-like life with her grandfather, an old ferryman. One day, the arrival of two brothers, Tianbao and Nuosong, ripples through Cuicui's tranquil existence, bringing the stirrings of love. Yet, while fate brings them together, it also cruelly causes them to miss each other for no apparent reason. A single act of well-intentioned sacrifice leads to an irreversible parting. Tianbao's departure, Nuosong's silent leave, and an accident involving her grandfather... in one night of wind and rain, the most important people in Cuicui's life quietly vanish. In the endless darkness, Cuicui chooses to wait for Nuosong's return. Days go on, life continues, and she turns her waiting into the sole candlelight, becoming the most stubborn and tender glimmer. Chung Ying Theatre Company (中英劇團) partners with Beijing Gulou West Theatre to adapt Shen Congwen's classic novel "Border Town" into a poetic musical. Maestro composer Chung Chi-wing (鍾志榮) creates moving melodies, while director Roy Szeto (司徒慧焯) brings delicate direction, infusing this gentle rural ink painting with heart-wrenching tunes, allowing the audience to feel the capriciousness of fate and the tenderness of waiting through song and story.
