About the show

Emma is a married woman, Jerry is a married man. Emma and Jerry fall in love. Seven years. The end. But nothing is that simple. Does he know? Does she know? Does he know that she knows? Does she know that he knows? Does he know that she knows but pretends not to? Does she know that they all know, but hopes she doesn't? One woman, two men, and love is no longer just love — Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter's classic work "Betrayal" peels back the layers of a seven-year extramarital affair through a reverse narrative, tracing back from the end of the betrayal to its beginning. Every line, every pause is charged with suspicion and testing, leading the audience into a marital "Rashomon" where the more joy there is, the deeper the fall. Premiered in 1978, "Betrayal" immediately won the Laurence Olivier Award and has been performed around the world. This Cantonese version is directed by Yau Ting-fai (邱廷輝), Assistant Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (香港話劇團), who leads the cast in exploring the cautiousness of "Pinteresque silence," bringing the tug-of-war between subtext and pause onto the stage, allowing the audience to feel the omnipresent tension and unease of this love triangle.
